Freedom Isn’t Free

Finally, I’m on to a new project. Its been awhile, or at least it seems that way. I was able to wrap up a few things the last couple weeks and now I feel like I have more time to work at my sewing machine.

Let Freedom RingGiven that this weekend is Labor Day, I think my project is a good choice. I actually started this project several months back. I created a Prismacolor drawing of the Statue of Liberty from a photo I took last year. Once the Prismacolor drawing was complete, I scanned it into my computer and did some Photoshop manipulation to the image. I was playing with different effects and decided on three options to work with. I used Spoonflower to print the images on fabric and now I’m ready for the next step…thread painting.

I’ve used this technique on several quilts so far and I really like how they turn out. I’ll show you the finished quilts when they’re done, but for now you at least know where I’m starting.

I hope you enjoy a relaxing holiday weekend and always remember that freedom isn’t free.

Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!
