Friday is the opening reception for the Double Takes exhibit at Eye Candy Gallery in Southern Pines, NC. I usually hold off showing the final piece until the day the exhibit opens, but Wednesday is the day I post to my blog. So what should I do.? There’s only one thing I can do, I have to show you the finished piece now!
I call this quilt “Kiss the Sun” which I named after an Irish Blessing that goes like this:
May the wings of the butterfly kiss the sun.
And find your shoulder to light on.
To bring you luck, happiness and riches.
Today, tomorrow and beyond.
The butterfly is “painted” with thread and the flower is painted with Prismacolor pencils (click on the images if you want to see them larger and in more detail). I heavily quilted this quilt; something that I want to do more of. I hope you get to see this quilt in person at Eye Candy this month. I so love this exhibit, I can’t wait to see what everyone else did. Seeing the art next to the photography will truly have you doing a double take.
