I’m getting my quilts ready for another show. Next week PAQA-South is hanging its members-only exhibit ARTQUILTconnections. I have 2 pieces in this exhibit.
One of the quilts is making its public debut in AQconnections. It is called Seductive Tranquility (you can read the story about this quilt here). I created this quilt because of my “connections” with the mountainscapes. To me there is something magical about mountains. When I see mountains, I feel this huge inner peace. A couple decades ago, I lived in Tacoma, Washington. The Cascade Mountain Range and the mysterious Mt. Rainier use to play peek-a-boo outside my window. Somedays you would see them, other days not. I miss seeing the mountainscapes. Someday I hope to live in a place were I can enjoy their beauty again.
The other quilt that was accepted into AQconnections is Kiss the Sun (you can read the story about this quilt here). The “connection” theme of this quilt reflects the symbiotic relationships of the earth. The flower needs the butterfly and the butterfly needs the flower. They use each other for mutual survival, both living in harmony with the other. I find that so powerful. Right now, this is probably my favorite quilt that I’ve made. I love the quilting, the flower and the butterfly. I can see myself doing more pieces like this. Maybe using different flowers and different “friends” (e.g., bees, birds, lizards, etc.).
It will be exciting to see both of my quilts hang with those of my friends and colleagues. If you have the time, I hope you visit the exhibit, I’m sure you will enjoy seeing the other art quilt “connections.”
